Student Guide

Welcome to the ALIGN Ballet Method. Below you will find detailed answers regarding our curriculum, studio policies, course structures, and attendance guidelines to ensure a smooth and rewarding dance experience.

Class Levels & Placement

ALIGN 1 (Absolute Beginner 1) 60 minutes

Designed specifically for adults with zero prior dance experience. ALIGN 1 introduces core ballet concepts, posture, alignment, basic footwork, and foundational barre exercises in a supportive, non-intimidating environment.

ALIGN 2 (Beginner 2) 60 minutes

Prerequisite: Completion of ALIGN 1 or previous formal ballet training within the last 3–5 years. This level expands on barre combinations, introduces center work, simple turns, and basic allegro (jumps).

Basic - 60 to 90 minutes depending on location.

Prerequisite: Mastery of ALIGN 2 concepts. A full simple barre and center. Simple fundamental exercises for gaining strength and technique.

Intermediate - 60 to 90 minutes depending on location.

Intermediate should be a full barre and center with multi part combinations. Dynamic movement and a more professional level class. Prerequisite = Basic or advanced prior training.

Pointe & Specialty Workshops

Designed for experienced adult dancers who have built adequate ankle strength and core stability through regular ALIGN Basic classes. Instructor evaluation is required prior to pointe enrollment. Check the specific info for each specific specialty workshop to understand the skill requirements.

Workshop Lengths & Course Formats

  • 6-Week Essential Workshops: Our flagship progressive curriculum structure. Classes meet once per week for 6 consecutive weeks, allowing students to progress together as a cohesive cohort.
  • Accelerated Weekend Bootcamps: Intensive 2-day or 3-day weekend workshops covering a specific topic. These could be described as a mini crash course.
  • Open Basic and Intermediate Drop-In Classes : available exclusively at our main Beverly Hills location. All other locations exclusively offer our 6-week and 12-week closed workshop formats.
  • Virtual Classes: Live online classes are currently paused at this time, but are expected to resume in late November.

Attendance & Make-Up Class Policy

  • Consistency Matters: Because our workshops build sequentially week-by-week, regular attendance is strongly encouraged for maximum progress.
  • Make-Up Class Allowance: Students are permitted a maximum of 1 make-up classes per 6-week workshop session. 2 per 12 weeks sessions.
  • Advance Notice Requirement: You must mark yourself absent in the online student portal at least 24 hours prior to class to receive a make-up credit.
